3. Your loved ones will rejoice as you’ve now removed all birthday gift-giving disasters for life. Say goodbye to scented candles and mall vouchers and hello instead, to birthday trail socks, super-cool sports-sunnies and maybe even a race entry or two.

4. If you build up gradually (although we all know you won’t!) you should be less injury prone than your experienced sisters who’ve been nursing a suspicious IT band & intermittent runner’s knee since early 1998.
